This is probably one of the best, most detailed, and fair treatments of the teaching of tithing in American churches.  The simple answer to the question “are all Christians required to give 10% of their income to their local church” is answered with a very resounding and simple yet comprehensive “No” in Dr. Croteau’s dissertation.  In fact, what Dr. C shows is that there is no universal percentage for any Christian… only a universal principle… “sacrificial giving.”  It’s a very interesting and accessible read.  But it’s a dissertation, so it’s like a book… I’m just mentioning that so you don’t get the impression you can read this at work on your coffee break.  As much as the sermon tonight may be enough for some people, others may want to take a deeper look into the topic.  And this paper is an excellent resource.  Enjoy and be challenged.
