What does the Mayan 2012 Prophecy have in common with the true meaning of Christmas? A lot, actually. And we’re going to talk about it for the next three weeks as we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s Birth on December 25 AND the Mayan calendar to run out on December 21, 2012. And yes, we’ll be celebrating BOTH this year. It’s not that the world is going to end in a blaze of fire, earthquakes, worldwide flooding, or John Cusack trying to fly a plane through falling buildings on the West Coast, anymore than the big man with the mystical airfare and a penchant for worldwide delivery go anywhere but the minds of children…
BUT there’s more Biblical parallel to this “prediction” than you might think. And it’s all wrapped up (pun intended) in a significant part of the Christmas story… the part where a culture of astrologers watch the stars for divine wisdom, then come within two years of accurately predicting the end of one age and the beginning of a new one? Don’t remember that part of the Christmas Story? I guess you need to come hang out with us this Sunday.
